Both laminate and vinyl flooring are made from synthetic materials that can imitate the look of wood or stone. 

The main difference between them is that laminate flooring is made of high-density fiberboard with a photographic layer on top, while vinyl flooring is made of plastic with a printed layer on top. Laminate is generally more durable and scratch-resistant, while vinyl is more moisture-resistant and easier to clean.

Engineered hardwood floors are made by man, while hardwood floors are made of a single layer of 100 percent naturally grown wood.

Engineered hardwood floors have a wood wear layer on top, which is 100 percent solid wood, and a core made up of 5 to 7 layers of thin plywood that are crisscrossed. Hardwood floors are solid wood, all the way through.

Engineered hardwood floors are preferable if you want a classic hardwood look but lack the budget for solid options. Hardwood floors are preferable if you want a floor that will last a lifetime and don’t mind the expense of professional installation.

You always want to follow the guidelines provided by the carpet manufacturer. This is very important as your carpet warranty, in part, is based on you following their recommendations.

For example, if the maintenance instructions inform you to have your carpet cleaned by a professional twice a year, then you will want to save those payment receipts. They will come in handy if you ever need to file a performance claim.

Another example would be the type of vacuum you use. Some carpets that are thicker need to have special types of vacuums.

As mentioned above, you will always want to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer.

Always refer to your hardwood manufacturer's cleaning guidelines. Most companies will recommend cleaning your floor with a soft bristle broom.  After you sweep the floor, use a soft cloth with a cleaner (recommended for hardwood flooring) to go over the floor.

Do not ever use a steam cleaner on hardwood floors!
